How does hunger feel? I'm not talking about the rumbling in your stomach from skipping lunch. But the hunger you experience from not consuming any food at all with no hopes of touching food the next day. Most people in
The Psalmists understood this. Their Psalms show them vulnerable and real. They are filled with desperation and a violent crave for HIM!
"I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before Him? Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, ""Where is this God of yours?" (Psalm 42:2-3)
“My knees are weak from fasting, and I am skin and bones (David was probably on a long term fast)….
Help me, O Lord my God! Save me because of your unfailing love.” (Psalm 109:24-16)
“Passion for your house has consumed me…When I weep and fast, they scoff at me…But I keep praying to you, Lord, hoping this time you will show me favor. In your unfailing love, O God, answer my prayer with your sure salvation. (Psalm 69:9-13)
I want to be desperately hungry for Him everyday. I want this hunger to be part of my “normal life”. I don't want any "substitutes" of His presence! I know I have allowed them in my life and you know you have too. We have allowed these "Spiritual Splendas" to take the place of the "real thing". They are available everywhere, taste like the real thing, but it is not the real thing! The things of God are not easy. They are not convenient and they don't come on little yellow packages. God is totally inconvenient (just in case you had not figured out yet) and so is fasting! Let God be your portion today. Crave for Him. Allow Him to be inconvenient in your life and accept no substitutions. Believe me, nothing tastes better than the real thing!
Stay Hungry!
