I received a call today from someone that's participating in the "40 days". He had mentioned how he was praying for people on drugs and something switched in his mind. Instead of praying for "them" as he had done in the past he felt a shift and he started feeling ownership and responsibility for his brothers and sisters. He felt like this was personal request now for those that should be in church but for whatever reason were trapped in a bad life. Needless to say, he felt different and he was excited about the shift in his prayer life.
For me, this is a major goal of the "40 days". I want to see people take ownership in our community and the people of our community. Prayer and fasting is no longer a duty when you are an owner. By owner, I mean, an owner in the kingdom of God. Remember Jesus? When He was 12 He said, "I must be about my Father's business." At the age of 12 He already was an owner in his Father's business. He recognized His responsibility. Owners, (and children of the owner) act differently and feel differently than employees.
I remember five years ago I was driving back from South Carolina and God was speaking to me about starting PrayforPensacola. He had given me the idea, the blueprints and the vision to make it happen. Right after I got back to Pensacola I was driving through the drive-thru of McDonalds and when I pulled up to pay for the burger God spoke and told me I was responsible for the lady at the window. Not just that lady but people of Pensacola. I too felt the reponsibility that my friend felt. This lady and the other thousands just like her were no longer just people I saw. They were people that God had connected my heart with. Prayer for the community was no longer a chore, it was a passion. I sensed the difference. And to this day, that passion has not left.
So here is my prayer as I pray for you today reading this blog, I pray that God converts your heart for the people of Pensacola or the city you are from.
