God can do anything He wants. He doesn't need humans to really do anything. He created the world, He can destroy the world. He made the universe and can easily destroy Satan with a blink of the eye. But for some reason, instead of completely intervening in the affairs of man and fixing every problem, He has decided to entrust us with that responsibility. His word is very clear. There is an expectation that we work. There is an expectation that we will "be about the Father's business."
He wants us to learn how to pray, fast, serve, worship, give, etc. He must consider these disciplines/habits to be important. He told the original apostles that they would judge the tribes of Israel in the next life. So it goes without saying that the skills we learn in this life will have value in the next. I know money, success and fame won't have much value there! But knowledge of God's ways will.
These thoughts lead me to the following conclusion. He wants us to take the time to learn what He considers important. He gives us 70 years to learn. If this learning process wasn't important then He would just destroy the devil and move on. During these 40 days ask God to show you in His word what He thinks is important and valuable. Learn His ways. Make His priorities your priority. Make His agenda for this city your agenda. Keep going.
Amen, Joe. Good post, great truth.
